Hello, I am Brandon the owners of Moore Handcrafted Woodworks. I reside in Akron, OH with my wife Whitney and our (4) children. I started my woodworking journey at the end of 2021, however my love for woodworking came along well before 2021. When I was a kid I loved to build things. One of my greatest projects as a kid was a dog house for my golden retriever. I started working on the dog house with my grandfather, who assisted me along the way but let me do most of the work. By the time that project was done, my golden retriever had a massive dog house, I made it a little to big… However, I enjoyed working on that dog house throughout the entire process. I would continue to build other projects here or there, but nothing else major growing up. I was always leaning toward and pushing myself to go to college. I had my heart set on being an electrical engineer from the time I was 12. So when I graduated high school in 2008, I went on to attend the University of Akron for Electrical Engineering. In college when we got to our senior year, we had to do a large scale project and I ended up building a simple table out of construction grade lumber/plywood to house our electronics for the project. This was when I got my first Dewalt Drill/Driver combo sets. Building this table brought back the memories of building the dog house with my grandfather, who still remembers and we have laughs together of how big that dog house ended up becoming. I graduated in 2014 with my Bachelors of Science in Electrical Engineering and I began my engineering career working for an engineering consulting firm in commercial building construction, where I still work currently full time.

In 2017 my wife and I bought our first home, that was built in 1960. As of no surprise, once we bought our house it needed some TLC and I began my DIY journey in working on our home in all aspects whether it be carpentry, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, etc. It did not matter, whatever the need was I put my mind to it and figured it out on what the CORRECT way was to get it done. My wife always encouraged me to try and tackle the projects rather than hiring a contractor to do the work. She always pushed for me to do it, and knew that I had the potential. I have no background in those fields; however with working as an engineer in construction and watching/talking with contractors, my wife pushing me and passing along information she knew and some skills I have learned over the years; I have always felt that no matter what the project was, I can get it done with the right tools and knowledge of how to do it right the first time. As time has passed since 2017, I have been fortunate enough to acquire a decent amount of tools that I used on many of the home DIY projects as the years of DIY projects went on. However, life was just about to get crazier for my wife and I. We had our first son in 2017 and he was only 6 months old when we first purchased our home. Then just a few years later our daughter arrived in 2019, our next son in 2020 right at the beginning of the Covid pandemic. In 2020 due to Covid, I ended up loosing hours at work so I decided I would look for ways to start making extra income. I thought well I have all these tools, and have been doing DIY in all areas around my house, that I would start to offer handyman services to our neighbors as a good portion of them are elderly. This panned out to bring in some extra income during that time, but I only ended up doing it for a short while as I realized I enjoyed doing it on my own home, but not something I wanted to do continuously for others, so this only lasted for about 6 months, but then thankfully my hours at my engineering job began to pick backup.

Near the end of 2020 I started to get into watching woodworking YouTube channels and I just became intrigued more and more. I spent a good amount of time just watching woodworking on YouTube, researching projects, tools, etc. and just developed a passion and interest for woodworking. I started to look at what projects I could work on or do for my family. I spent the entire first part of 2021 just doing research, and learning as much as I could about woodworking. In In the middle of 2021, my wife found out she was pregnant with our 4th child. Getting the news we were going to be having a 4th baby, made me realize we are now going to be a family of 6. We went from a family of 3 in 2017 to a family of 6 in 5 years. Things were about to get crazy!

Toward the end of 2021, I decided since I had all of the tools I have accumulated over the years I wanted to look into creating a woodworking business to provide custom built furniture, home decor, signs, cutting boards, charcuterie boards, etc. some of which would be for my own family but it would allow me to put all my tools to use and help provide additional income for my family as my wife who is a RN had decided to continue to be a stay at home mom while the children are little (and lets be honest, daycare costs are crazy!). My wife assists me with the business whenever she can, but having 4 little ones to take care of is no easy feat. She has however helped design some of the cutting board/charcuterie board patterns that we currently offer.

I am continuing to grow my skill set and passion for woodworking to become even better and to produce even more high quality products for my customers to enjoy for years to come. If you made it this far in my story, I want to thank you for stopping by my website. I hope as time goes on I can share my experiences, skills with others to aid in their pursuit for becoming a woodworker.
